All five occupants of the car were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, where the girls died from their injuries.

Only four days ago, on Christmas Eve, two pensioners died in a head-on collision on the same road.

A 76-year-old female passenger in a Vauxhall Astra died at the scene, and a 77-year-old man, who was driving the car, sustained traumatic injuries and died in hospital the same night.

And on Christmas Day, two young brothers Adnan Habib, 10, and four-year-old Arsalaan were tragically killed when the car they were in - also a Ford Focus - crashed on the M6 motorway.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said that recue workers had tried to resuscitate the children at the scene last night.
