Are You Being Served? star dies - The Sun

ARE You Being Served? actor Trevor Bannister has died aged 76.

The star, famous for his role as ladies' man Mr Lucas on the 70s sitcom, suffered a heart attack while at his allotment in Thames Ditton, Surrey yesterday.

His brother, John Bannister, explained the actor, who also enjoyed turns in The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green and Z Cars, became ill while undertaking repair work on his shed.

Mr Bannister who paid tribute to him in a radio interview, said: "He was a good lad, we were all very fond of him."

The Wiltshire-born star is survived by his second wife Pam and three sons Simon, Timothy and Jeremy.

He became an actor after studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts following two years of National Service.

As well as gaining fame in the BBC's Are You Being Served? as womanising junior salesman James Lucas, he more recently starred in The Last Of The Summer Wine as re-occurring character Toby Mulberry Smith.

And in 2009 he led tributes to Are You Being Served co-star and former EastEnders star Wendy Richard at her funeral.
