Mouthwash recalled over bacteria scare - Herald Sun

THOUSANDS of bottles of a Colgate-Palmolive mouthwash are being recalled from shop shelves after traces of a harmful bacteria were detected.

Australia's drug regulator the Therapeutic Goods Administration has issued an urgent recall notice for the 300ml bottles of Savacol antiseptic mouth and throat rinse.

The TGA says consumers can identify contaminated bottles if the mouthwash appears to have changed colour, taste or smell, or contains white flecks.

The TGA says while the bacterial contamination is unlikely to harm healthy people, those with lowered immunity or long-term lung problems, like cystic fibrosis, could be at risk of developing a chest infection, and all bottles should be returned to Colgate-Palmolive no matter how the product appears.
