MTV Awards: Inside Belfast's Odyssey arena where they're getting ready to party - Belfast Telegraph

The biggest music show in the world takes place in Belfast tomorrow. The international spectacular that is the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) will be broadcast live from the Odyssey Arena to countries around the globe.

Musicians from all over the world will be honoured at this huge event.

Last night the Belfast Telegraph watched as French superstar DJ and producer David Guetta took to the stage for a sound check and full rehearsal.

We can reveal today that Taoi Cruz is also in the line-up for the 2011 EMA.

The singer-songwriter joined Guetta on stage last night, surrounded by a team of first class dancers, for a rehearsal of smash hit song Sweat, and a few other tracks too.

This year's dancers were all required to have special aerialist training as well as contemporary dance and hip hop — so expect some spectacular stunts.

Celebrated set designer Es Devlin has excelled herself.

It's her second time working on the MTV EMA, and in the past she has designed sets for stars such as Lady Gaga, Take That and Muse.

The set design for the 2011 MTV EMAs in Belfast is inspired by the sculptures of artist Naum Gabo, and is composed of thousands of strips of swirling aluminium.

The acts have all been able to realise very diverse concepts this year and all musicians will have their own unique staging or special effect.

A gigantic glitter ball is suspended from the ceiling, two huge screens flank either side of the rounded stage complete with runway to bring artists that bit closer to the fans.

The main performances will be located in the main stage area the Northern Ireland pub

lic are used to seeing gigs on, but the awards themselves will be doled out at the back of the auditorium on a smaller stage.

The EMAs are famous for producing amazing live performances by blockbuster acts, and there are sure to be some wild surprises from host Selena Gomez, guest presenters and the musicians performing.

One track from Red Hot Chili Peppers' performance at the Ulster Hall will be beamed into the arena and, as a nod to this year's vibrant EMA logo the luxurious 'red carpet' will actually be hot pink.

MTV insiders have revealed the word Odyssey has inspired the staging, so expect a journey of sorts on Sunday night.
