Vettel earns Button tribute - The Press Association

Jenson Button paid tribute to Sebastian Vettel after the double world champion equalled a long-standing Formula One record.

By claiming pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix the young German equalled Nigel Mansell's 1992 mark of 14 poles in a season.

"It is a great effort," said Button "It shows Sebastian and the whole team are doing a good job, that their consistency has been very impressive throughout the season."

He added: "Being on pole isn't everything, as we've seen this year, although it does make your life easier for the race, but then it doesn't mean you're going to win it.

"I'm sure it's great for him he has 14 poles. I'd rather have 14 wins - which he can't quite achieve this year, which is nice.

"But fair play to him, great job. Hopefully we can limit them next year."

Vettel now remains on course to beat Mansell's effort, and said: "I'm very pleased with the pole.

"It's a very special one to equal Nigel Mansell as well."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said: "It's a remarkable achievement for him to equal Nigel Mansell's 14 poles in a single season, which by coincidence also happened to be achieved in an Adrian Newey-designed car with a Renault engine."
