Friends in wood hunt for Sian - The Sun

FAMILY and friends of Sian O'Callaghan scoured woods for the missing clubber today - many of them in tears.

Pretty brunette Sian disappeared after a night out with pals at the Suju nightclub in Swindon, Wilts.

More than 400 volunteers formed small groups, flanked by police officers to search the 4,500 acre woodland.

The dense wood, near Marlborough, Wilts, is where Sian's mobile signal was last picked up at 3:24am on Saturday morning.

Volunteers have turned up in their coachloads to help with police instructing them not to touch anything they come across.

Cops were tonight said to be keen to find Sian's LG E900 Optimus mobile.

Many volunteers aid they didn't know Sian personally, but wanted to do their bit to help find her.

Police advised that only those fit and well should join the search as the terrain is rough.

Yesterday, Sian's boyfriend made a tearful plea for her safe return and said: "This is breaking our hearts."

Kevin Reape joined Sian's family in the emotional appeal for help to find the 22-year-old who vanished after leaving the Japanese-themed club to walk the half-mile home to the flat she shared with him.

Quantity surveyor Kevin, 25, said: "We want her home safe and well. Sian is a bubbly, lively person instantly liked by everyone she meets. Someone out there must know where she is.

"This is a terrible time for all of us and we are praying for Sian's safe return. It is breaking our hearts not to know where she is."

Kevin issued the plea flanked by Sian's parents Mick, 51, and Elaine, her sister Lora, 19, and brother Liam, 24.

Detectives said they fear a "nightmare scenario" - that personal assistant Sian was abducted after leaving the club at 2.52am and driven to Savernake Forest 15 miles away.

Sian had sent a final text to Kevin around 1.15am, asking: "Where are you? x". He was asleep.

Her smartphone was last known to be working somewhere in the woods at 3.24am when Kevin texted saying: "Worried x".

Then the battery ran out. Kevin, her boyfriend for 2 years, raised the alarm at 9.45am when Sian failed to return to their flat.

Sian disappeared after telling one pal she would see her on the dancefloor in "ten to 15 minutes" once she had finished chatting to another girl outside.

Last night Wiltshire Police released footage of 5ft 3in Sian in the nightspot in a bid to jog revellers' memories about what she was doing and who was with her.

The brunette, with a distinctive asymmetric haircut, is seen casually walking from the club alone in a bolero jacket and carrying a handbag with a beige flower.

In the black and white recording she walks down a stairway in the club through two sets of double doors, past the reception area and outside on to the street.

Her face partially obscured, Sian can only be seen from behind or from the side in the footage.

Det Supt Steve Fulcher said that Kevin, who had spent Friday at Cheltenham races, was "absolutely not" a suspect.

ANYONE with information should call Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
