Fuming FErgie charged by FA - TODAYonline

Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association over his criticism of Martin Atkinson, the referee who officiated Manchester United's defeat by Chelsea on Tuesday.

Ferguson fumed at Atkinson over his failure to give Chelsea goalscorer David Luiz a second booking for fouls on Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney, and for awarding what the Manchester United manager considered a "soft" penalty after Yuri Zhirkov fell under Chris Smalling's challenge.

"You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway, and we didn't get that," said Ferguson after the 2-1 defeat. "When I saw who the referee was I feared the worst."

The Scot has until next Tuesday to respond to the charge. THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
