David Walliams has denied reports that he is being tested for Weil's disease.

However, a spokesperson for the comedian has confirmed that he is still suffering following his charity swim.

Walliams, 40, who completed his second charity swim for Sport relief earlier this month, was said to be suffering with fever, extreme muscle ache and joint pain.

Health scare: David Walliams is still poorly, but denies reports he is being tested for Weil's disease.

It had been claimed the comedian, married to supermodel Lara Stone, 27, could have contracted the Weil's disease after completing the epic 140mile swim of the Thames in just eight days.

The disease, that can be contracted when contact is made with water that has been contaminated with animal urine, killed Olympic rowing medallist, Andy Holmes, 51 last October.

But Walliams' representative denied reports he has been tested for the disease.

A statement read: 'Comic Relief understands that David has contracted a bug that has caused a stomach upset.

'He is being treated for this and has been advised by medical professionals that it is not serious and that he will soon be back to full health. David has not been tested for Weil's disease.'

David, who raised over 1.1million in the swim has now been forced to pull out of hosting a high-profile party for the Gorbachev Foundation, a charity he supports.

The comedian has also been diagnosed with a torn disc in his back. He started experiencing pain after his swim which has made it difficult for him to walk.

He spent some time in hospital receiving treatment but was allowed home.

He tore one of his discs as a result of his swim and is now out of hospital, but he is undergoing physio and has had to cancel some appointments.'

On completing the swim 15 days ago Walliams battled through a severe bout of 'Thames Tummy' - a nasty stomach bug after he swallowed dirty water laden with bacteria, chafing from his wetsuit and aching muscles.

And he was bitten by water fleas during the swim from Lechlade in Gloucestershire to Westminster Bridge in London.

He said at the time: 'There was a lot against me at the beginning and the water was a lot colder because the summer was so bad. Being sick was a low point. I lost my mojo but I thought if I try I can keep going.'

One half of TV show Little Britain, David, was greeted by his wife Lara Stone, celebrity friends, relatives and hundreds of fans as he climbed up the steps in front of the former County Hall building on the South Bank.

Walliams quickly played down his achievements saying ' 'It was just swimming. It was just putting one arm in front of the other... just swimming.'

I did it! But David Walliams has been left with a torn disc after his 140-mile charity swim of the River Thames

Thank god it's over! David is all smiles after completing his charity swim

Swim through miles of Londoners sewage. Tummy bug or worse. Surprises all round.

The Thames is supposed to be a really dirty river. He was brave (or mad) to swim in it. Well done David for putting yourself out for charity. Hope he gets fit and well soon.

As an ultra marathon runner, I do know that if you give you're body a pounding it will get revenge by giving one back. Get well soon.

What a hero. How refreshing to see a 'celebrity' doing so much at his own personal cost to his health too, for charity and the good of others. He is very impressive and I think this shows the measure of the man. A good heart & we should applaud him & show support. Well done Mr Walliams & get well soon :)

David if you haven't been tested for Weil's disease you should be if only to rule it out . It's passed on through rats pee and can be very nasty.

Well perhaps he should be tested for Weil's disease? A 'bug' is a bit vague
