Room for one more in Downton Abbey?
Downton Abbey may need an extension on the trophy room as Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine looks set to join the popular British television series.
As if Downton Abbey wasn't already award-gold, now Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine will join the popular British television series.
The 77-year-old will join the cast when they start filming the third season next month, though Australian audiences will have to wait to see the fruits of her labour - only the first season of the period drama has screened locally.
Still, Aussies will be familiar with the characters MacLaine is set to cosy up to; she will play the mother of Lady Grantham, portrayed by Elizabeth McGovern.

Gareth Neame of Carnival Films, which produces the show, said on Monday that MacLaine's character will be a "wonderful combatant" for Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess.
With large numbers of fans in Britain, the US and elsewhere, it's no surprise Downton Abbey has enjoyed critical success, racking up Golden Globe and Emmy prizes for best miniseries or TV movie.
