Usually a chance to flash the flesh in the spring sunshine - punters instead dove for cover and hid their glitzy dresses beneath plastic ponchos.
But even the bid to stay dry became a fashion frenzy as locals sported plastic rain covers in reds, blues and greens at the Liverpool racecourse.
Some clever wags even turned the rain into a virtue - this forward-thinking lass matched wellies and a raincoat to her blue dress and hat.
Not everyone came prepared though. The first victim of the wet was all that fake tan - orange-streaked streams were pouring off some race fans.
But the showers didn't put a dampener on the day's spirits overall - with drinks in hand, the gamest of girls kept smiles on show even as they shivered.
It was a very different story at the start of the day though. With sunshine breaking through the clouds one of the first to arrive was Coleen Rooney.
Structured but sexy, her black and white dress boasted a cute kick skirt and simple lace bodice.
Coleen, 26, kept the look unfussy but fabulous with silver bangles and a flattering up-do.
She had come prepared by taking TWO pairs of £560 designer shoes.
The wife of Man United ace Wayne Rooney made it round the racecourse in 6½in-high Lady Gres Christian Louboutins.
She earlier left home for her day out with pals clutching a spare pair along with a glass of Buck's Fizz. Stylish Coleen teamed her shoes with an Audrey Hepburn hairdo.
Also choosing black accessories and lace was fellow WAG Danielle Lloyd - although her Wolves star fella Jamie O'Hara was clearly left at home for the day.
Just like the WAGs, local lasses take the annual fashion display seriously - with some spending weeks (and a small fortune) to plan their outfits.
As with yesterday, nude and cream were the colours of choice to show off tanned pins - with peach, orange and pinks bringing up the rear.
Puffball petticoats were also a hit - giving the styles on display a prom night twist.
Despite the cool temperatures and impending rain, short and strapless dresses romped home in the style stakes.
We're shivering just looking at these marvellous minis.
But if the girls were slow to cover up their bodies there was a positive stampede to keep heads warm - in a colourful variety of hats.
Feather and flounces proved popular on the mostly wide-brimmed headgear.
And we love the tongue-in-cheek cherries on this homegrown number.
It's always a question of go large or go home at Aintree though - and some race fans were in danger of taking an eye out with their flamboyant styles.
While most racegoers chose plain block colours, there were just enough colourful print dresses to keep the style pundits guessing.
Summer may be a few months away yet but the brave chose strappy maxi dresses and cutaway looks better suited to July.
Full-length and fabulous can work in a girl's favour though - these two look like they're having a whale of a time in jewel colours.
As befits a jubilee year, royal blue also proved a popular colour on Day Two of the racing festival.
A pretty dress is never enough to wow though - top notch accessories are a must.
A classy clutch bag is a must for betting slips (and lippy) and the styles ranged from itsy-bitsy to satchel size - with one patriotic lass flying the flag in sequins.
It's a photo finish for wackiest outfit for these two pals - the young are never afraid to take a fashion risk at Aintree.
Cue flounces, frills, bows and a lot of attention from fashion watchers.
Feathers and fur were also popular - adding an extra note of interest to the already eye-popping styles on display.
Of course it wouldn't be Aintree without a brief stop for a ciggie - and a look at the competition.
Black tends to be a style no-no, unless you're Coleen, so it was good to see these two taking a risk with inky shades.
Summing up the style mantra for the day though are these two gorgeous girls - big hair, big heels and a Spring palette to bring a smile to style pundits.
