But it is the SNP now pondering where it got its campaign wrong and how Labour's very fight for survival came up trumps. By all accounts the timing was a blessing for Labour.

Until a fortnight ago its strategists were assuming the party would lose its majority Glasgow. Then along came the noise about the First Minister and News International, amplified by Labour which recognised its own associations with News International could be conveniently forgotten.
