World Champion Retires - New York Times

The seven-time world snooker champion Stephen Hendry announced his retirement after losing in the quarterfinals of the world championships in Sheffield, England. Hendry, 43, turned professional as a 16-year-old in 1985, won his first world title in 1990 and stayed at No. 1 in the rankings until 1998. During the past decade, his star began to wane and he was overtaken by a new generation of players.
