According to Us Weekly, sources are now saying that the Katie Holmes' move towards divorce wasn't a scheme that was hatched over-night; rather, it was a year-long plan to escape her husband of five years.
The magazine reports that the actress had enough of Tom Cruise's demanding lifestyle and his controlling ways.
"Every move she made and everything she did was controlled . . . She felt like she was in Rosemary's Baby," A source explained, referring to the 1968 classic horror flick. "This is about protecting her daughter. She wants to be in charge of how Suri is being raised and didn't want her to have an exclusively Scientology education."
Holmes was a first-hand witness to the upbringing of Cruise's other two children, who participated in a Scientology ritual which Holmes was strictly against, reports TMZ.
The ritual called "sec checking" reportedly involves the subject holding onto electrodes while answering a series of questions which help the Church pin-point "areas of spiritual distress."
Several ex-Scientologists explained to TMZ that this process is a mild form of psychological terrorism used to trick kids into reporting on their parents.
Despite the PR sandstorm, it looks like Holmes is taking her upcoming divorce in stride. The Dawson's Creek actress was spotted out with her six-year-old daughter, Suri, in New York City on Tuesday which also happened to be Cruise's 50th birthday. The pair took a trip to an ice cream shop and according to sources, Holmes seemed to be handling the situation quite well.
"Katie just looks relieved. Like she is finally relaxed and calm," a source told Us Weekly.
"Suri was her normal self, laughing and kissing Katie," added the witness, who looked on as the tot enjoyed a sweet treat at Sundaes and Cones in NYC's East Village neighborhood. "I don't think she knows what's going on."
