CHINA has condemned the deadly suicide bombing at a Moscow airport and pledged to co-operate with Russia in the fight against terrorism as it joined in world outrage over the attack.
President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolence to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev following Monday's attack that killed 35 people, Xinhua news agency reported.
"China condemns terrorist attacks of any kind and resolutely supports Russian measures to fight terror,'' Hu's message said today.
Mr Hu also expressed sympathies to the victims and their families, Xinhua said. Premier Wen Jiabao sent a similar message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, it added.
Scenes of carnage unfolded at Domodedovo airport in southern Moscow on Monday as corpses were removed from the arrivals area after the blast, which also left more than 130 people wounded.
Calling the attack an act of terror, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev chaired an emergency meeting of transport and security officials and increased security across the country's main airports and railway stations.
China, which says it faces an Islamic separatist terrorism threat in its northwestern Xinjiang region, which borders Central Asia, was willing to step up co-operation with Russia in the anti-terrorism fight, Mr Hu said in his message.
The Russian capital has been repeatedly rocked by attacks in recent years, blamed on militants from the North Caucasus region, where Russia has for years been battling an Islamist insurgency.
Double bombings carried out by two suicide bombers on the Moscow metro on March 29, 2010, killed 40 and wounded more than 100.
