THE under-threat RAF bases at Lossiemouth and Leuchars face a head-to-head fight for survival, it emerged last night.
Campaigners insist Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey sounded the death knell yesterday for one of the Scots sites, on a visit to Lossie and already-doomed Kinloss in Moray.
Last night Callum McPherson, of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said: "He told us RAF Marham, in Norfolk, was safe - leaving it a battle between Lossiemouth and Leuchars."
Mr Harvey revealed Marham was almost certain to escape cuts as part of the Government's strategic defence review.
The minister added: "The economics of closing Marham are not so clever."
