The Metropolitan Police have launched a fresh investigation into alleged phone hacking by journalists at the News of the World after News International, the tabloid newspaper's owner, handed over "significant new information".
The company also sacked Ian Edmondson, the paper's assistant news editor, following an internal probe. Mr Edmondson was suspended in December after a High Court document claimed he commissioned a private detective to intercept voicemail messages for actress Sienna Miller. Mr Edmondson could not be reached for comment.
