Manitoba has recorded its first case of the H1N1 flu virus, Health Minister Theresa Oswald said today.
The confirmation of the virus means it's still circulating in the province and why more Manitobans should get a free flu shot, health officials say.
The province has so far seen 343 lab-confirmed influenza A cases and one lab-confirmed case of influenza B.
Oswald said the H1N1 case involves a person in their 20s who is recovering.
To Jan. 1 there has been 34 hospitalizations, six admissions to intensive-care units and three deaths associated with the flu.
Officials caution flu-related deaths may be related to the other health issues.
They also said the flu shot protects against the three main flu viruses circulating in Canada.
