David Beckham will train with Tottenham for a month, although a proposed short-term playing deal for the former England captain is a "no-goer" because of insurance issues, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said.
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder will train with Tottenham until Feb. 10 before returning to his parent club ahead of the Major League Soccer season, Spurs said in a statement on its website today.
"He will be a great influence around the place and I am sure we will all benefit from his winning mentality," Redknapp told the website. "We'd love to have him here for longer but respect his commitments to LA Galaxy. They wanted him back in early February so that made it difficult to do a playing deal on the basis of three weeks."
Redknapp told Sky Sports that any chance of Beckham playing for Spurs was ended by issues over insurance for the 35-year- old. It was "just too complicated," he said.
Beckham, a former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, has twice joined Italy's AC Milan on loan since moving to the U.S. in 2007. England coach Fabio Capello demanded he play in Europe to be considered for the national team. Beckham has played 115 times for his country.
Tottenham is currently fourth in English soccer's Premier League and has reached the round of 16 in the Champions League, where it will play AC Milan.
