Before presenting the R&B singer with a Brit Award, Cole, 27, declared: "And the winner of the Best International Female solo artist is, my girl crush, what's her name? Rihanna."
Last year Rihanna revealed that she had a girl crush on Cole and at the time, the 22-year-old said of 'The X Factor' judge: "She is awesome, I think she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
"Like, how do you have a face like that, with hair like that and dimples, and a body like that, that's proportioned like that."
Before receiving her Brit Award, Rihanna, real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty, performed a medley of tracks from her recent album 'Loud', despite complaining of feeling under the weather.
The Barbadian arrived at London's O2 Arena in a psychedelic Dior prom dress, costing in excess of 12k (10k), before changing twice as she took to the stage.
However she headed straight back to LA after collecting her award due to her illness - which she described as "the bug that's going around."
Girls Aloud star Cole missed out on a gong at the ceremony, she was nominated for Best British Female, which went to Laura Marling.
In an interview backstage with Dave Berry, Cole said of Rihanna: "I love her".
When asked if the feeling is mutual, she said: "Yeah, she loves us."
Then Cole was asked if there was any chance of a duet between the two singers and she said: "I'd love that, to do a single together, to do a record with her.
"She feels the same, there could be wheels, there could be motions."
When Berry suggested that Jay Z could be the mentor in the collaboration, Cole replied: "I hadn't thought of that but now you've put it in my head, that could be amazing."
