Reds fans furious over Torres' 'betrayal' - Straits Times

'DOWN the rubbish chute.'

Liverpool fan Philip Chong, 46, did not mince his words when asked what he would be doing with the six Fernando Torres jerseys he owns.

The engineer's fury with the Spanish striker over his shock move to rivals Chelsea was shared by most of the Liverpool fans whom The Straits Times spoke to.

Chong added: 'Just when I thought we were going to see some light at the end of the tunnel, our star striker hands in a transfer request three days before the window shuts. It's ridiculous.'

The World Cup winner joined Premier League champions Chelsea in a British record &pound50 million (S$102 million) deal on Monday, just days after declaring his intention to leave the Merseyside club in pursuit of Champions League football.

The 26-year-old hotshot had bagged 65 goals in 102 matches after joining Liverpool in 2007 from his hometown club Atletico Madrid, but that is all forgotten now, according to Reds fanatic G. Prakash.
