Ricky Gervais -- the same guy who was blasted by many for being too rude during this year's Golden Globe Awards -- has apparently been asked to serve a third term as host of the show.
In a Globes diary published in the British magazine Heat, Gervais writes: "The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. I don't think I should. I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them."
So apparently the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association actually wasn't that offended during the Globes when Gervais jokingly accused him of wearing dentures and being unable to use the loo on his own. Because the ratings were strong. And they could be even stronger next year if Gervais hosts again. And that would mean that even more people might hear about Philip Berk's alleged issues with teeth and climbing off of toilets. That's win-win, people. Win-win.
(For the record, in our poll on this subject, 72 percent of you said that you'd like to see Gervais back on the podium next year. So perhaps the HFPA sees this as just giving the people what they want ... so they can get good ratings.)
Of course, Gervais already said in previous interviews that he doesn't plan to host the Globes again. We'll see if he changes his mind between now and next January.
