Stadium leak 'concerns' Spurs - Eurosport.com AU

Tottenham Hotspur officials are said to be fuming and considering their legal position following news that West Ham have won the race to take over the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

In particular they are said to be incandescent with the way the news leaked late last night, when they had been assured the announcement would be appropriately handled.

Baroness Ford, the chair of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, will make the formal announcement about West Ham's successful bid at a press conference in central London tomorrow.

Tottenham Hotspur, who were bidding for the stadium with partners AEG, believe there has been too much political interference in the process and believe that might give grounds for a judicial review.

They are also seeking clarification on the processes used by OPLC.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has already expressed concern that political expediency may have shaped the decision, and it is understood Tottenham will now consider requesting a judicial review of the process.

Although the OPLC's decision still must be signed off by two government departments and the Mayor of London, Spurs are annoyed that Kate Hoey, Boris Johnson's sports advisor, has already stated her preference for West Ham's plans.

However, in public Spurs are waiting for the news to be made official, even if they privately accept they have not been successful and are considering suiting up for a legal replay.

"Whilst we are concerned to read that there appears to have been a leak of information from the OPLC about what their recommendation and decision may be, we regard it as premature to make any comment at this stage," read a club statement.

In the days ahead, the OPLC's handling of the stadium issue will certainly come under the microscope, especially as Boris Johnson has recently announced his desire to swallow the organisation into a new, more powerful Mayoral Development Corporation.

Meanwhile, the OPLC are continuing to maintain no decision has been made regarding the stadium's new owners

"It is pure speculation to say that a decision has been made. Our board meets on Friday," said a spokeswoman.

"There will be presentations by OPLC officers of both bids and a vote to recommend a preferred bidder."
