The phrase commonly said to performers ahead of a show is to 'break a leg'.

And Mel C was seen hobbling away from the debut show of Jesus Chris Superstar on crutches - but thankfully she had only suffered a sprain.

The Spice Girls singer, 38, managed to make it through the performance of the musical despite injuring herself earlier in the day.

Mel C also managed to toast the successful first show with her co-stars Chris Moyles, Ben Forster and Tim Minchin at a party following the performance.

The Spice Girl arrived at the bash in a pearl-coloured lace dress with peplum detail and she accessorised with a bandage around her ankle.

The show's writer and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber was also on hand to join in the celebrations.

There wasn't just celeb action off the stage either, as many guests attended to see to see Chris Moyles make his major stage debut in a new production the show.

The updated version of the stage musical, co-written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, also stars comic Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot and former Mel stars as Mary Magdalene.

Ben Forster is in the role of Jesus Christ after receiving the most votes in Superstar, ITV1's hunt for a performer to play the son of God.

He might have won an ITV talent show to be crowned Jesus Christ Superstar, but while Ben Forster was incredible in the title role of the new arena tour there is only one true superstar in the show- Tim Minchin.
The long-haired comedian, previously known mainly for his quick-witted humour and musical jokes, takes on the vocally challenging role of Judas in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new production.
The part takes a huge amount of talent due to the speed of the songs and range of vocals needed, but Minchin manages it with ease.
Forster, meanwhile, was clearly the favourite among the female fans in the audience, and was greeted by a chorus of cheers and whistles as he took to the stage at London's O2 Arena for his first song as Jesus.
Clearly set to be a Superstar in his own right after the show has finished, Foster's boyish charm and incredible singing talents proved an attractive mixture, with the heartthrob throwing himself whole-heartedly into the role and managing the difficult emotive sequences with ease.
The lead female role of Mary Magdalene in Superstar is taken on by Sporty Spice herself, Melanie Chisholm, and is the latest proof that the stunning brunette is much more than a former girlband member.
While the singer had injured herself in the dress rehearsal, she soldiered on through the live show with no indication of the sprained ankle she was suffering from.
Meanwhile, former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles plays King Herod in a much-anticipated role. However, while not making an appearance in the show until the second half, Moyles appeared on stage for just one song. And despite bringing a comedic undertone the role, Moyles failed to impress with his vocal talents-opting for the talking rather than singing approach to his track. However, Moyles still managed to entertain viewers, sentencing Jesus in a Britain's Got Talent-type show and making modern references to acts including One Direction.
The new production of Superstar comes from director Laurence Connor, who has brought the show into the 21st Century with an edgy new plot inspired by the London riots.
The show is undoubtedly much more raw and gritty than previous reincarnations, with Lloyd-Webber himself saying: 'Even the hardened rockers in our cast were taken aback by how cutting edge Laurence's vision for the show is.'
And following the opening night, Lloyd-Webber took to the stage among his cast thanking them for 'producing the Superstar show I have been dreaming about for the past 42 years'.

Sorry, but she's probably twisted her ankle, not sprained it. Had she sprained it, she would not have been able to put any weight on it to do the show, and it would have swollen up, preventing her from getting her shoe on. As an aside, I bet Tim Minchin was fantastic as Judas.

Wow she looksGreat !!! except for the TAT'S.

Hmm, I always thought Tim M was a one trick pony, I may have to concede that he is a two. Either way, I for one am glad he's spending most of his time in the UK - he is awfully vain & over-rated in my books.

-amelie, uk. - I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, BUT OBVIOUSLY MOST OF THE READERS HERE, SEEM TO LOVE TACKY TATTOOS AND HORRIBLE LEGS. (THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE BEEN RED ARROWED) I HATE TATTOOS ON WOMAN (THAT ARE ON SHOW) THEY WILL LOOK REDICULOUS WHEN THEY ARE OLD AND HAVE WRINKLY SKIN. GO ON RED ARROW ME....OPPS THERE GOES ONE NOW

oh Mel C what a mess you look and stop with the attention seeking crutches

Saw it last night! Was good but nowhere near as good as the 90's Lyceum production. Ben has nothing on Steve Balsamo!

Im still convinced he wasn't the best Jesus !

Oh, and I guess you are perfection itself Amelie?

Mel's Tattoos are awful

Mel C looks a bit of a mess here. Those tacky tattoos are a problem and she really doesn't have the legs to be wearing that dress...
