British film star Susannah York dies at 72 - Washington Post

Susannah York, an English actress who emerged as one of the most luminous stars of the 1960s in films including "Tom Jones," "Tunes of Glory," "A Man for All Seasons," and "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" -- the last of which brought her an Oscar nomination -- died Jan.15 of cancer at a hospital in London. She was 72.

The Guardian newspaper of London has its obituary for Ms. York up online, and The Post's is on the way. Meantime, here is a bit from "Tom Jones," in which Ms. York's Sophie Western falls for the title character, a rascal played by Albert Finney.
