Poll suggests most French see a plot behind case of jailed IMF chief Dominique ... - The Canadian Press

PARIS — A new poll suggests most French people believe that International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn was the victim of a plot leading to his jailing in New York on sex crime charges.

Asked "Do you think Dominique Strauss-Kahn was the victim of a plot?" 57 per cent of respondents said "surely" or "probably" — while just under a third said the opposite. Another 11 per cent had no opinion.

The poll of 1,007 adults for 20 Minutes newspaper and BFM TV was published Wednesday and conducted Monday by the CSA agency. No margin of error was given.

Strauss-Kahn was jailed following accusations by a hotel maid that he tried to rape her on Saturday. The claims have stunned France, where he had been considered a strong possible contender for next year's presidential race.
