Wayne Rooney hungry for more England goals after Bulgaria brace - Goal.com

England striker Wayne Rooney says he is pleased to be enjoying international football once again and is looking to prove his value to the national team after a disappointing showing at the 2010 World Cup.

The Manchester United man failed to score in South Africa but has returned to form with three goals in England's last two 2012 European Championship qualifiers and is hoping to continue his rich vein of form.

"I'm enjoying my football and I've got a great hunger about me," Rooney told reporters after England's 3-0 victory over Bulgaria.

"I want to prove myself again and hopefully I'm doing that. I feel really good and hopefully I can continue to score goals."

The striker was also keen to praise the performances of Theo Walcott, Stewart Downing and Ashley Young, who impressed as an attacking triumvirate behind Rooney.

"The manager has brought some players in and they have done very well and cause problems for teams," he said.

"With the pace of Theo Walcott, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing all breaking forward, it is difficult for teams to defend against us."

The trio have been accommodated in a new 4-2-3-1 formation, a system change Rooney feels has been a success so far.

"We controlled the game and I enjoyed playing in that system," he added.

"We have won every away game since the World Cup and as a team are good on the counter-attack.

"Wherever the manager wants me to play, I'm happy to play and I got chances."
