Mitch Winehouse, who believes seizure related to alcohol detoxification killed his daughter, also said "there was nobody there to rescue her".
"Everything Amy did, she did to excess," the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.
"She drank to excess and did detox to excess," he stated.
The taxi driver said he regretted that his daughter - whose most famous song, "Rehab,' has her answering "no, no, no" when told to go to rehab - was trying to get rid of her addiction to alcohol without a doctor's help.
"The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter. It was heading in the right direction," he added.
The 'Back to Black' hitmaker suffered seizures during the period of abstinence and would often lose consciousness.
Mitch admitted that he was speculating this happened on the morning she died and said he would find out more conclusively how she died after a full inquest into her death begins next month.
