MANCHESTER UNITED remain tight-lipped on reports that Wayne Rooney was dropped yesterday.
Speaking before the shock 3-2 home defeat to Blackburn, boss Alex Ferguson revealed the striker had been left out of the squad due to niggly injury problems.
And United are standing by the statement despite one newspaper claiming 26-year-old Rooney did not feature for disciplinary reasons.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Rooney had been dropped from the game and ordered to pay a six-figure fine after a row erupted with Ferguson when he and wife Coleen went out for dinner with team-mates on Boxing Day.
Before the match Fergie said: "Wayne hasn't trained well this week, he's missed a few days and we're hoping that he trains today, tomorrow and, by Wednesday, he should be OK. It's little strains here and there."
Manchester United have not responded to the report.
