CHER Lloyd walked off stage during her set at the V Festival today when someone threw a bottle of urine at her.

The teen singer was performing the second song at the Chelmsford, Essex, festival when the incident occurred.

Clearly upset, the 19-year-old fled the stage to compose herself, but decided to return and resume her performance.

Cher's management advised her to halt the gig for her safety, but she was determined not to disappoint those in the crowd who did want to see her.

When she came back, she told the crowd at Hylands Park: 'It's hard enough being up here, but it's not nice having bottles of p**s chucked at you.'

However after more bottles were thrown, it was decided to end her set early.

A spokesman for Cher told the MailOnline: 'It's a real shame that a few individuals spoil the gig for all the other fans in the audience.'

Cher's Essex performance came a day after she sang at the other V Festival in Staffordshire.

Since leaping to fame in The X Factor in 2010, Cher has had a rocky experience with fame.

Many critics thought she shouldn't have been put through judges' houses after she broke down during her audition in front of Cheryl Cole and Will.i.am.

Despite the mixed reception to the young singer, she ended up in fourth place in the series, which was eventually won by Matt Cardle.

She has admitted being the recipient of cyber-bullying, even talking about her experiences on Panorama earlier this year.

The Malvern, Worcestershire-native said on the show: 'I must get at least ten tweets a day saying I'm a dirty pikey. I think they know it's going to get to me, or because they know they can.

'There have been many times when I've cried myself to sleep. I'm very scared because I like to think people think I'm strong, because if they don't, then they might not think I can do it... Some days I wish that people would leave me alone for a bit and for there to be a hole to suck me in.

'I never thought I could talk to anybody about it because I didn't feel I needed to as I was strong enough to get through it alone, but that's the worst thing you can do.'

Also performing at Chelmsford today includes Pixie Lott, Rita Ora, Stooshe, Tom Jones, Olly Murs, The Killers and Snow Patrol.
