Brandreth on Osborne's train journey - BBC News

The Chancellor George Osborne had to pay for an upgrade after he sat in a first class train carriage with a standard class ticket.

Early reports suggested an aide to Mr Osborne initially refused to pay a supplement, but Virgin Trains said there was no disagreement.

Talking of his days of getting the train to London, Gyles Brandreth, a former Conservative MP, looked back on being accosted by Ann Widdecombe while attempting to sit in first class: "Do you think you are a first class person [she said]? stay in standard, you can't go wrong."
