Unofficial 'party' under scrutiny - BBC News

The impact of a massive unauthorised party in Glasgow on the day of the Royal Wedding, which ended in serious disorder, is due to be discussed by the city council.

About 6,000 people turned up at Kelvingrove Park after the event was organised through Facebook.

A total of 22 people were arrested and 11 police officers were injured.

Glasgow City Council is to investigate whether it might be possible to recover the cost of the clean-up operation.

Two teenagers organised the party through the social networking site but the city council warned people off, expressing concern over safety.

Although the party began peacefully, scuffles broke out and police officers were forced to move in to clear the area.

More than 100 officers attended the incident. One of the injured officers was taken to hospital with a head injury but released after treatment.

The event resulted in a massive clear-up operation by the council.

Council meetings will discuss whether it might be possible to recover the £40,000 clean up cost - possibly from a nightclub which lent speakers to the event.

Another matter for discussion will be how easy it now is for a large gatherings like this to be organised over the internet, with the authorities only finding out at a late stage.
