Alex: Cup defeat left me sick - The Sun

ALEX FERGUSON is searching for the perfect FA Cup tonic after last year's shocker left him "sick" to his stomach.

Fergie crashed out in the third round for the first time EVER 12 months ago as Manchester United were stunned by Leeds.

And the Red Devils boss said: "It is the first time I had lost a third round tie since I came to the club and it didn't sit well with me.

"I did not enjoy it and was sick for a few days afterwards.

"I made a mistake picking the wrong team last year. Hopefully I don't pick the wrong one this time."

Ferguson's men are red-hot favourites for their clash on Sunday with bitter rivals Liverpool.

But the Old Trafford chief is taking nothing for granted. He added: "It is a cup tie.

"On this occasion, you have to forget the other side of it, the Manchester United against Liverpool side.

"There are shocks in cup ties and always have been. Bournemouth beat United in 1984. It is a tournament you cannot take for granted."

Wayne Rooney is in line to return after limping off and eventually back on against West Brom on New Year's Day.

It caused him to miss Tuesday's clash with Stoke yet Ferguson said: "If it had been serious Wayne would not have come back on last week.

"Maybe it was not the right thing to do in terms of getting him ready for Tuesday's game.

"But he started work yesterday and we just hope that he will be all right for Sunday."

Edwin van der Sar could also return after a bout of flu although if the keeper misses out Tomasz Kuszczak will keep his place.
