Nursery worker charged with child abuse - Herald Sun

A 20-YEAR-old male nursery worker has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance related to charges of raping a child under the age of three at his workplace.

Paul Wilson, 20, from Birmingham, central England, was arrested at his home early on Wednesday in a pre-planned operation by West Midlands police and Birmingham City Council Children's Services.

He appeared before Birmingham Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of oral rape of a child under 13 years, namely two or three years, on dates between January1, 2009, and July 30, 2010.

Police said there was no evidence that other children at the nursery were abused.

He will appear in Crown Court in Birmingham next Friday.

Several items, including a computer, were seized as evidence and being examined by special investigators, police said.

Wilson worked as a nursery assistant at the Little Stars Nursery in Birmingham for 18 months.

Police superintendent Matt Ward said he spoke to other parents of children at the nursery, who were "clearly very angry and very shocked."

The nursery was closed yesterday as police contacted the parents and guardians of children who attended the centre and did not reopen today.
