Apple Opens App Store For Macs - Forbes

Apple is hoping to transfer some of the enthusiasm for its iPhone and iPad to its Mac computers, with the opening of its new Mac App Store Thursday.

The store went live with more than 1,000 applications, including paid and free apps. Mac users can download the apps similar to how they use iTunes, or the apps store for their iPhone.

Developers of the apps get 70% of the proceeds for their programs. Apple ( AAPL - news - people ) will also sell its own software in the store, and companies like Autodesk ( ADSK - news - people ) and Ancestry.com have signed on to do so as well.

Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people ) and Adobe ( ADBE - news - people ) are reportedly not selling software in the Mac store as of yet.
