Galloway 'hurt' by Sheridan plans - The Press Association

Former Respect MP George Galloway has said he is "surprised and hurt" at a proposal by the wife of his left-wing ally Tommy Sheridan to stand against him for a seat in Holyrood.

Sources close to Gail Sheridan have reported that she is going to stand as a Glasgow list candidate for her husband's Solidarity party in the Scottish Parliament elections in May.

However, Mr Galloway revealed that the pair had been in discussions about standing together under the same banner, but that the idea foundered over the issue of Scottish independence and Mr Sheridan's tarnished reputation.
