Beyonce Knowles has been spotted during a shopping trip in Los Angeles with a dramatic new platinum blonde hairstyle.

It is not the first time the singer has apparently opted for a lighter tone

The 29-year-old wife of music mogul Jay-Z was photographed with curly blonde locks, much lighter than in her latest L'Oreal Paris commercial.

Beyonce's skin also looked much lighter than usual.

It is not the first time attention has been drawn to her having an apparently paler skin tone.

In August 2008, L'Oreal was accused of 'whitewashing' the star in an advert by digitally lightening her skin.

At the time, the cosmetics house denied that the pictures had been altered in such a way.

Beyonce, who is currently recording her fourth solo album, has been announced as the headline act for this year's Glastonbury Festival.

Festival organisers think the Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) hitmaker will "explode" at the event on 26 June.

Emily Eavis says she booked her in order to keep the line-up diverse.

"We are really keen to keep the line-up as diverse as possible. It's always been that way.

"I went to see her live last year and was blown away by the might of the show. She has such soul, an amazing voice with an incredible, all-female band", added Eavis.
