Tommy Robinson told Sky's Political Editor Adam Boulton the protest in Luton would not be a "confrontation."
Mr Robinson also claimed his family were receiving 24-hour police protection because of his involvement with the EDL.
But he said he would ignore advice from officers not to attend the march.
He also insisted the EDL was not being inflammatory by holding such events in multi-ethnic areas.

US Pastor Terry Jones was invited to the march but won't be attending
Previous English Defence League marches have been dogged by violence.
At a protest in Leicester last October, 10 of the group's members were arrested.
The group had invited controversial American pastor Terry Jones to Saturday's march.
However, that plan was abandoned when the Government said it was considering banning Mr Jones, from the UK.
Mt Jones made headlines when he threatened to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
