Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann will appear live on Close Up tonight.

On what is their daughter's eighth birthday, Kate and Gerry McCann will talk from London about their ordeal and the move by the Metropolitan Police to review Madelaine's disappearance.

At the age of three Madeleine vanished while on holiday with her parents in May, 2007 in Portugal. She was in her parents' apartment which was in a holiday complex.

The McCanns, who were in a restaurant on the complex at the time, believe their daughter is alive.

Kate has written a book detailing the agony of her daughter's disappearance.

In the book, she says her immediate fear was that a paedophile had taken Madeleine.

"The idea that my Madeleine was taken by a paedophile is my worst fear," she wrote.

"I became consumed with it. It was torture for me. It was horrible, so vivid. It's worse when I go to bed and think about that first awful night again, when Madeleine went missing."

Search for the truth

When Fatima Bhutto was 14, her MP father was killed by police in Karachi during the premiership of his sister, Benazir Bhutto.

In her book, Songs of Blood and Sword, Fatima documents the history of the Bhutto dynasty and her search to uncover the truth about her father's death.

Currently in New Zealand, where she is a speaker at the Auckland Readers and Writers Festival, Bhutto talks to Close Up.
