POLICE probing allegations Cabinet minister Chris Huhne made his wife take his speeding points have passed their findings to prosecutors.

Mr Huhne fiercely denies asking Vicky Pryce to accept penalty points when he was a Euro MP in 2003.

Lib Dem Energy Secretary Mr Huhne would be forced to quit if the Crown Prosecution Service decides to put him on trial.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer will take the final decision on the case, after it has been considered by lawyers.

Essex police launched the inquiry in May after the allegations surfaced following a newspaper interview with his estranged wife Mrs Pryce.

At the time Mr Huhne welcomed the probe as a chance to "draw a line under the matter" and said the claims were "simply incorrect".

He and Mrs Pryce could both be jailed if they are convicted of perverting the course of justice.

A CPS spokesman said: "A decision on whether to charge will be made in due course."

The development came as Mr Huhne was cleared by the Electoral Commission of wrongdoing over his election expenses.
