Kings of Leon cancel entire tour after incident - Chicago Sun-Times (blog)

Caleb left the stage Friday night, ending the show after 11 songs had been performed. Four songs into the Dallas set, Caleb, 29, complained of losing his voice, asking the crowd to help him sing. Later, after rambling a bit, he said, "I'm gonna go backstage for a second and I'm gonna vomit. I'm gonna drink a beer and I'm gonna come back out and I'm gonna play three more songs."

He didn't return. The next day the band released a statement that said: "Caleb Followill suffered from heat exhaustion and dehydration, during last night's Dallas performance causing his vocal chords to seize."

His bandmates, who are all family members, were quick to blame Caleb solely for the meltdown in Dallas, as seen in this YouTube video of the remaining members apologizing to an angry, booing crowd:

Hours later, bandmate and brother Jared Followill tweeted and hinted that the problem was much larger than physical health: "I know you guys aren't stupid. I can't lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade." He added: "Dallas, I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am. There are internal sicknesses and problems that have needed to be addressed. No words."

His tweets today are no cheerier: "Utterly depressed. It's completely out of my hands. Family has to come 1st. If bass solos & backing vocals were more popular, I'd be there." "I'm not going to stop working. I'm going to spend time writing songs and looking to the future."

This afternoon, a new statement came from the band: "We are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are canceling their entire U.S. tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion.

"The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break. Unfortunately, the US dates cannot be rescheduled due to the band's international tour schedule."

The shows will not, after all, be rescheduled, but the tour is expected to resume Sept. 28 in Vancouver.

Chicago Live Nation representatives added: "Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Tickets purchased online or via phones will be automatically refunded."

Last year, KoL had to cancel a St. Louis show midway through when pigeons pooped on the stage.
