The cast of Disney's Lemonade Mouth have welcomed comparisons with High School Musical - but insisted their movie is totally different.
The new film stars Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Hicks, Bridgit Mendler, Blake Michael and British actress Naomi Scott as five teens who form a rock band after meeting in detention.
Hayley, who plays feisty Stella, said: "It's an amazing honour to just be compared with it, because High School Musical was extremely successful. But when you watch Lemonade Mouth it's a band as opposed to a musical, it just has a different pace, you get to really know every individual character and follow their home life."
She went on: "It's not just at school - it's just a different project, a different meaning, different music.
"It definitely has a different edge to it, we definitely push the boundaries with the style."
Meanwhile, Naomi admitted it was strange to see the film do so well in the US ahead of it being shown in the UK.
"For me I've kind of been watching from afar because I've been in Australia or I've been at home which is London, and it hasn't come out yet here. It's weird. It's interesting to be isolated from it," she said.
Co-star Adam added: "I think the idea of it, knowing the views and knowing that it's doing really well, it's just an amazing feeling."
:: Lemonade Mouth is set to premiere in September on Disney Channel UK.
