Virginia Tech locked down, weapon on campus - Xinhua

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) was locked down Thursday, after reports of a gunman being sighted on campus.

The school's website put out an alert, warning students and faculty to stay inside and lock the doors.

The website said three children attending a camp on campus reported seeing a man with a weapon, possibly a handgun.

The reported gunman was described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall with light brown hair and no facial hair. He was wearing no glasses, a pair of sandals, and a blue and white striped shirt.

Virginia Tech is the site of the United States' worst school shooting, which took place in 2007, when 32 people were killed and 25 wounded. The gunman, Seung-Hui Cho, committed suicide afterwards.
