Wings Provide Lift, But Not For Reason You May Believe (VIDEO) - Huffington Post

How do wings provide enough lift to send airplanes soaring? You may have been told that lift is generated because air flowing above a wing must travel faster than air flowing underneath to cross the wing in the same amount of time. But an illuminating one-minute video by Dr. Holger Babinsky of the University of Cambridge shows there's only one problem with that explanation:

It's all wrong.

To learn the truth about wings - how they provide lift and why they're shaped the way they are - watch the video. It was produced in support of a series of lectures Dr. Babinsky plans to give, according to PhysOrg. He hopes the video will help correct the misinformation about airplane wings and lift, which he says is held by "95% of the audience" at some of his lectures.

Of course, you can't please everyone. The top-rated comment on the video reads, "Now explain? why an airplane can fly upside-down."
