Great British Bake Off: Beca on the three finalists as they go out to prove who's ... - WalesOnline

She might have just missed out on a place in the final of the Great British Bake Off, but Welsh baker Beca Lyne Pirkis will be cheering on all three finalists.

In a couple of hours we will know whether Ruby, Kimberley or Frances take the 2013 title.

First we asked Beca, 31, from Penylan, Cardiff, for her favourite memories of the three finalists.

Ruby

Ruby, from the Great British Bake-Off
Ruby, from the Great British Bake-Off

Your favourite memory of them from the tent? I couldn't believe the moment that Ruby managed to break her very heavy glass bowl of her mixer! Bless her, I don't think she realised how hard she was tapping the beater!

In your opinion, the best bakes they did over the series? Ruby's breadsticks were delicious, but her suet pudding was amazing!

The recipe of theirs you have tried or plan to try at home? Definitely want to try the suet pudding, proper home comfort food.

What you think their strengths are? Ruby's strengths are her natural ability to pair flavours together very successfully.

What they need to look our for in the final?  Ruby just needs to keep calm and concentrate on making sure that her bakes look as good as they taste and she'll fine!

Kimberley

Your favourite memory of them from the tent? Nothing phases Kimberley, she has one very cool head on those shoulders.  My memory of Kimberley in the tent will be just her sheer drive pushing her on calmly throughout every bake, striving to get the best result every time...she says she's not competitive, but I think she is!

In your opinion, the best bakes they did over the series? Kimberley's Peace Bread was amazing and so was her Filo Pie.  Both of them had such complex flavours and I could have happily eaten both of them all to myself.

The recipe of theirs you have tried or plan to try at home?  I have a few of Kimberley's recipes as her food is the type of food I'd like to eat, but she did write down for me on  piece of paper her wild garlic pesto and I can't wait to make it as soon as the wild garlic is back in season!

What you think their strengths are?  Kimberley's strengths are her flavour combinations and her cool head.

What they need to look our for in the final?  Kimberley just needs to keep doing exactly what she has been doing, as the saying goes: if it ain't broke...!

Frances

Frances, from the Great British Bake-Off
Frances, from the Great British Bake-Off

Your favourite memory of them from the tent?  My memory of Frances is of her struggling across the lawn into the tent with the biggest back of gadgets and tools I've ever seen!  She has so much kit and endless lists of what she needed to do and when...I'd never seen anyone like that before!

In your opinion, the best bakes they did over the series?  Frances' Bannoffee Millionaire's Shortbread Tower was amazing as was her wheat-free Chelsea Buns.

The recipe of theirs you have tried or plan to try at home? Definitely Frances' Bannoffee Shortbread!  I'd love to make more of her stuff, but I don't think I have enough kit!!

What you think their strengths are?  Frances thinks completely outside the box on every bake we had to make.  Her ability to take an idea and take it to the next level and then another is just phenomenal.

What they need to look our for in the final?  Frances just needs to get every box ticked...Style = Tick.  Substance = Tick, then she'll be able to take over the world, one crazy bake at a time!
