A gas explosion engulfed a burger van at a bank holiday pony show today injuring eight people.

Four people had to be taken to hospital after suffering from scalds and burns.

Pictures taken at the time of the fire show the dramatic scenes at the National Pony Society's summer show at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate, North Yorkhire.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called at 11.32am this morning and sent three ambulances to the scene. Witnesses reported two explosions from the burger van.

A spokeswoman said four people were treated for injuries at the scene and another four were taken to hospital in Harrogate. Their injuries, said to be minor, included scalds and burns.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that two 19kg propane cylinders had been involved.

The fires have now been extinguished and fire crews are cooling the cylinders down.
