Celtic's Kayal goes down with likely injury

Israeli soccer player Beram Kayal is likely lost to Scottish Premier League club Celtic for the remainder of the season after hurting his arm in yesterday's match, which Celtic dropped 3-2 to Inverness. With Celtic trailing 3-1 to the hosts, Kayal was driving down the pitch in the 71st minute when he ran into an Inverness defender in the penalty box as he was about to shoot. He crashed to the ground, and the 23-year-old had to be taken off on a stretcher. He later went for a medical exam. ?(Haaretz Staff?)

Rishon wins quarterfinal basketball nail-biter

Maccabi Rishon Letzion came out on top yesterday of a topsy-turvey basketball contest with Bnei Hasharon 81-79 to even their Super League quarterfinal series at one game apiece. The game saw 14 lead changes, including four in the final three minutes, and no team ever led by more than five points. After trailing much of the final quarter, Lee Nailon scored five points in a row for Bnei Hasharon to give the visitors a 72-70 edge at the three-minute mark. Nitzan Hanochi and Dwayne Mitchell both hit free throws to put Rishon back on top to lead 76-74 with a minute to go when Dan Grunfeld buried a three-pointer for Bnei Hasharon. But consecutive fouls doomed the visitors, as Rishon converted all its free throws and Shawn James missed an attempt to tie the game at the buzzer. ?(Haaretz Staff?)
