Kovalainen ready for KERS boost - SkySports

Having broken away from fellow 'newbies' Marussia and HRT in 2011, the upwardly-mobile Lotus outfit are now striving to break into the midfield group now in tantalising reach before them. With the identity of his team-mate still subject to intense speculation, it's Kovalainen who will lead Caterham's charge in the year to come - and the Finn is already sounding in determined mood to beat one of the sport's established names.

"I feel one hundred per cent ready to go and ready for even better performances this season," said the man voted the ninth-best driver last season by the sport's team principals. "As a team we want to move into the midfield. We've set the target that we want to always be qualifying in Q2 and challenging the teams directly above us - whether that's Williams or whoever it is. It's really, really close and we want to be in that group."

Of critical benefit could be the KERS device which Caterham, then known as Lotus, were unable to run last year but will now pack into their newly-revealed CT01 challenger.

"It's something that will really enable us to race those around us, especially at the race starts," commented Kovalkanien. "In terms of lap times, it should be worth around four tenths."
