History of violence of the gang who shot Thusha - Telegraph.co.uk

Petty squabbles between rival gangs in the area quickly escalated into gun and knife battles and a number of innocent people have been caught up in the violence.

The Gas gang developed a rivalry with the Stockwell-based ABM (All Bout Money) gang, the members of which were the intended victims when Thusha was shot.

In July 2010 Zac Olumegbon, a 15-year-old aspiring actor, was stabbed to death by Gas members in a revenge attack following the knifing of one of their number a fortnight previously.

Zac was chased by a gang of machete and knife wielding youths who stabbed him four times outside the gates of his school and left him to bleed to death.

Four youths associated with the gang were later convicted of murder while a fifth was found guilty of manslaughter in December last year.

Other cases linked to the Gas gang include the killings of 17-year-old Sylvester Akapalara, a promising athlete shot dead in a tower block in Peckham in December 2010. Sodiq Adeojo, 20, was jailed for life for the turf-war killing, which the judge described as an act of "mindless and appalling violence".

Nicholas Pearton was knifed in the back in May 2010 after being hunted down by a gang who were described in court as acting like a "pack of animals". Three teenagers were later jailed for murder while four others were convicted of manslaughter.

The murder last year of Temidayo Ogunneye, killed when he demanded the return of a stolen Blackberry, has also been linked to the gang.

During the latest trial, the court heard that McCalla's brother, Jaden, was shot shortly after the attack on Thusha.
