Eighteen days after being wed for the fourth time, Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor has announced she is ending her marriage.

Writing on her official site Monday, the "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer said she and Dublin addiction counselor Barry Herridge are parting amicably. The two were married at the famed A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on Dec. 8 after dating for three months.

This is what she posted on her site:

"From the moment myself and my husband got together not long ago," O'Connor, 45, wrote, "there was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me. These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about 'Sinead 'O'Connor' in the media etc. . . . Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life."

She said the marriage lasted 16 days, through Christmas Eve, and that they had lived together for only seven of them.

O'Connor, who conceded to "a bit of a wild ride i took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don't drink," went on to say, "My husband was enormously wounded and very badly effected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage. It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear. And that being with me was not going to serve him positively, career wise or any other wise."

Calling Herridge "a wonderful man" and assuring, "I love him very much. I'm sorry I'm not a more regular woman," O'Connor said, that "though it is painful to admit, we made a mistake rushing into getting married. . . . He has been terribly unhappy and I have therefore ended the marriage. I think he is too nice to do so [himself]. And too nice to trap."

O'Connor is divorced from her musician first husband, John Reynolds, with whom she has a son, Jake, now 23; journalist Nick Sommerlad; and friend and fellow musician Steve Cooney. She has a daughter, Roisine, 15, from a relationship with newspaper columnist John Waters; a son, Shane, 7, from a relationship with musician Donal Lunny; and a son, Yeshua, 4, from a relationship with Frank Bonadio.
