Bailed ex-tycoon Asil Nadir arrested in UK - Newsday

LONDON - (AP) — Police say former tycoon Asil Nadir has been arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

Nadir, who headed the collapsed Polly Peck business empire, is awaiting trial on charges of theft running into several million pounds (dollars).

Metropolitan police say the 69-year-old man was arrested Saturday in central London and is in custody. Police declined to describe the nature of the alleged breach of bail.

Nadir returned to Britain in August, 17 years after he fled to Northern Cyprus. He has been charged with 66 counts of theft.

He was granted bail after posting a bond of 250,000 pounds ($395,000).
